THE ALCOVE

Overwatch has released its second PVE game mode, Retribution. Retribution follows a Blackwatch mission which takes a turn as Reyes, or as players may know him, Reaper kills their extraction target. Players will find themselves in 4-person teams consisting of a Reaper, Genji, McCree and Moira, fighting through hordes of Talon soldiers and mini-bosses which present new threats to players.

 

The game mode differs from last year’s Uprising, as players push through the map towards their extraction point, instead of capturing and pushing a payload.

 

This event fills in some background into Blackwatch for players unfamiliar with the character backstories. Blackwatch is a black-ops style branch of Overwatch, acting in secret when the team cannot act publicly.

 

Cutscenes narrated by McCree give the player some insight into the changing character of Reyes, how McCree wonders if the actions taken in the mission were what pushed Reyes into joining Talon.

 

Blizzard has also released a digital comic also called Retribution which details the events leading up top the mission with some more insight into the characters.

 

Perhaps more exciting for some, however, may be the new skins released for some of the heroes. New legendary skins include a Blackwatch skin for Moira, Talon skins for Doomfist and Sombra, Soldier 24 for Reaper and a dapper waistcoat for Hanzo. Not to mention the return of all of last year’s Uprising skins!

 

This game mode may not seem much in the eyes of some players, but it shows that Blizzard is doing what it does best, keeping their fans happy. The Retribution event is live now and will be open for all players until the 20th of April, so make sure you jump in now to get all of your Archive loot boxes!
