MOANA REVIEW

Mar 12, 2018

Although I am quite late to the party that celebrates Moana, I only recently discovered it on the streaming service I subscribe to so I decided late is better than never.

Moana, released in 2016, is the 56th animated Disney film. It follows the story of Moana, the adventurous teenage daughter of the chief of the island of Motunui. Moana’s father expects her to take over his duties as chief when she is ready, however she has big dreams of leaving the island to explore what’s beyond the reef.

Moana embarks on a journey to find the mighty demigod Maui in order to complete an ancient quest from her ancestors in an attempt to restore peace and prosperity to her island. The pair sail across the ocean in a heart-warming, action-packed journey filled with monsters, chaos, and a lot of singing.

Overall, the movie has a very feel-good vibe with some inspiring lines, such as “There is nowhere you could go that I won’t be with you”. The film also includes some fantastic characters such as a chicken with fewer brain cells than a sponge and a self-confessed “village crazy lady”.

8/10
