GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF CANCER CHARITY SPECIAL AIRS

Mar 09, 2018

The cast of the first episode left to right: Sandi Toksvig, Martin Kemp, Harry Hill, Noel Fielding, Bill Turnbull, Prue Leith, and Roisin Conaty.

Contestant Bill Turnbull revealed earlier this week that he received a terminal cancer diagnosis after filming took place.

The disease, which started in his prostate, has now spread to his hips, legs, pelvis, and ribs.

The 62-year-old told the Radio Times he encouraged people to get tested, saying: "Maybe if I'd got it earlier and stopped it at the prostate, I'd be in a much better state."

He said he had put long-term aches and pains down to "old age".

Turnbull's consultant hopes that he can live for another 18 years.

The news puts a slightly more sombre tone on the show as it aims to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer, an annual fundraising campaign.

The campaign launched in 2012 and is a joint partnership between Channel 4 and Cancer Research UK.

The show will include its normal cast of Paul Hollywood, Prue Leith, Noel Fielding, and Sandi Toksvig

The show is said to be putting a video clip together to update viewers on Bill's condition when it reaches its finale.
