KIT'S EXPOSURE - ALBUMS

Mar 28, 2018

In my entire life I think I've listened to three albums from start to finish, Swedish House Mafia's Until One, Tonight Alive's What Are You So Scared Of?, and Fall Out Boy's Save Rock and Roll.

I've never seen the point of buying an album when I like one or two songs from it, so I've never really expanded my music taste beyond those songs.

I asked the other guys on the team to give me an album to listen to the whole way through, and here's what they suggested.

Sophie's choice:

Funeral - Arcade Fire

I really enjoyed this album, Neighbourhood (tunnels), Wake-up, Haiti and Rebellion all made me very happy as individual songs, but the album as a whole was really good to listen to.

The transition between Haiti and Rebellion made me angry, it has a transition into the next song at the end of the previous song and that feature annoys me in an album because it never flows as seamlessly as it’s intended to.

This album gave me a 60’s, kind of hippy vibe. It made me feel free and in-tune with the world.

David's choice:

The Smiths - The Smiths

I enjoyed this album, but not as much as I enjoyed Funeral. It’s easy to listen to, and very typical of the time it was released. My favourite song from the album was I Don’t Owe You Anything. As I was listening, all I could picture was the film, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and bands like The Cure and Simple Minds.

The songs are very similar and kind of blur into each other. I found it hard to distinguish which songs I liked because they felt too much alike.

I felt like I was listening to a mixtape in my bedroom in the late 80s/early 90s, it made me feel like I was in a simpler time and like a teenager again.

Tom's choice:

Poppy.Computer - Poppy

My first impression of this album was definitely apprehension, the music is very strange but unimaginably catchy. I enjoyed Beach Blonde Baby and My Style but my favourite song was Software Update.

This is definitely not the kind of album you could listen to if you wanted to unwind, it’s very upbeat and a little disconcerting at times but it feels wrong to stop listening.

Most of the album made me think of anime, with very ‘kawaii’ girls in short skirts and stockings. I felt more like I was in Japan than when I watch anime!
